When Lisa Green-Douglass first ran for the Johnson County Board of Supervisors in 2014, one of her priorities was to improve access to mental health resources. Now, as the newest member of the ECR Regional Governing Board, she is getting to do just that.

“I am so excited to be on the ECR [Regional Governing] board,” Green-Douglass said. “The mental health piece of our society needs so much attention and it needs to be fixed.”

Green-Douglass is a County Supervisor in Johnson County. The Johnson County Board of Supervisors does rotating terms on boards and commissions. Sup. Rod Sullivan served on the ECR Regional Governing Board since the region’s inception and just rotated off at the end of last year.

“Normally we rotate off, but we kept putting Rod on because of his professional background,” said Green-Douglass. “After he went off, I was very excited to accept the next term because I’m passionate about mental health care.” Green-Douglass, a former college professor, said she may not have experience working in the mental health field but her personal experience makes her uniquely qualified to serve on the board.

“I’ve seen how mental illness can destroy a family,” she said. “I know how hard it is to get services and I want to be part of the solution.”
